Bekanntheit erlangte der Song The Weight der Gruppe „The Band“ durch den Film Easy Rider, ein US-amerikanischer Spielfilm aus dem Jahr 1969. Er wurde zum Kult, verkörperte er doch als Road Movie das Lebensgefühl der Biker der späten 1960er Jahre. Der Film war im Jahr 1969 der offizielle Beitrag der Vereinigten Staaten zum Film-Festival Cannes.
